Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Stream)
Med-Neurobiology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (22008813)

The Neurobiology Department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine seeks to hire a new junior faculty member to further expand its vibrant Alzheimer's disease research community. We welcome inquiries from individuals who seek to understand Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias from traditional or novel disease perspectives. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research spans the areas of both neuroscience and immunology. The successful candidate will enter a supportive and collaborative research environment that is well suited to pursuing state-of-the-art Alzheimer's disease research. In addition to newly renovated open laboratory space, the candidate will have access to the resources of one of the top Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers in the nation. The ADRC maintains a substantial patient registry and a well-characterized neuropathological tissue bank. In the same building as the laboratory, a large colony of experimental marmosets is maintained to support non-human primate studies. Genetically engineered marmosets will be available, along with the imaging capabilities of a 9.4T MRI, a PET-CT, and a two-photon microscope, all capable of imaging awake, behaving animals. Candidates will also have the opportunity to affiliate with a large community of outstanding immunologists in the Department of Immunology where state-of-the-art shared facilities and equipment for immunology-related research are located.

The environment is well-supported. The Neurobiology Department has active support from Pennsylvania and is ranked third in overall NIH funding. Federal funds include several NIA translational initiatives such as the mouse MODEL-AD program, the AD Centers for Discovery of New Medicines, and a large grant supporting innovative marmoset studies (MARMO-AD). Other key resources include the UPMC Clinical Genome Center, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, and School of Computing and Information, which is committed to an AD modeling initiative. Outstanding undergraduate and graduate students are available from multiple programs, including programs in the Arts and Sciences as well as the Medical School. There are also joint graduate programs with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Computational Biology and Neural Cognition/Computation.

Appointment at the Associate Professor level may be considered for candidates with the appropriate credentials and record of accomplishment. The applicant must have obtained an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree and have demonstrated exceptional productivity, the ability to formulate novel hypotheses and approaches to AD research, and possess strong collaboration and communication skills. We offer competitive start-up packages, opportunities for intramural pilot funding, and life in one of the most livable and technologically innovative cities in the US Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, CV, 1-page statement of AD research interests, PDFs of 2-3 recent publications, and contact information for 3 references to the talent center.
