Illinois State University's Milner Library seeks an innovative, collaborative, and knowledgeable professional for a tenure-track librarian faculty position of Scholarly Communication Librarian at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Information Assets, this position is responsible for developing and implementing services and programs related to the institutional repository, author rights, open access and traditional publishing, disciplinary repositories, compliance with public access requirements for federally funded research, and related areas. The successful candidate is expected to engage in ongoing professional development and/or research to understand and support publishing trends, bibliometrics, copyright, and information technologies that support scholarly communication.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop a shared strategic vision for scholarly communication at Milner Library and Illinois State University.
2. Collaborate with University constituents to provide educational opportunities and resources to promote knowledge of scholarly communication issues.
3. Manage the institutional repository, including developing promotion and outreach strategies and resources.
4. Advise University scholars on author’s rights, intellectual property, publishers, and publishing platforms.
5. Chair the Scholarly Communication Team, which discusses scholarly communication initiatives and helps promote open tools and resources to campus.
6. Ensure that library personnel stay abreast of emerging publishing trends, open access resources, intellectual property rights, and technologies that affect access and preservation of open access scholarship.
7. Collaborate with the Copyright Librarian on inquiries, educational programming, and negotiations of contracts and licensing.
8. Collaborate with campus constituencies on outreach efforts and educational programming. Support library and campus initiatives related to Open Educational Resources (OER), International Open Access Week, and Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week.

The minimum salary is $68,000 and upwards commensurate with qualifications and experience.

1) A degree from an American Library Association-accredited graduate program or an ALA-recognized international equivalent.
2) Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate across the full spectrum of university constituents.
3) Experience or coursework on trends in the scholarly publication process, including copyright issues.
4) Working knowledge of open access and open educational resources models, issues, and opportunities.

5) Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.

1) Experience managing an institutional repository.
2) Familiarity with Digital Commons or other institutional repository platforms.
3) Working knowledge of scholarly publishing processes.
4) Experience offering training and assistance to faculty members and graduate students.
5) Evidence of experience authoring, editing, or publishing scholarly work.
6) Academic library experience.
7) Additional advanced degree.
