The University of Miami (UM) School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) seeks to hire an Asst./Assoc Professor (Research Track). UM is one of the top research universities and academic medical centers in the nation and is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU)—a distinguished national organization comprised of only 3 percent of 4-year universities in the U.S. UM strives for excellence and is driven by a powerful mission to transform and impact the lives of its students, patients, members of the community, and people across the globe.

The mission of the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) is to transform lives and health care through education, research, and service across the hemisphere. Among schools of nursing for FY22, the SONHS’ scientific portfolio is ranked 25th in the nation for NIH funding with a portfolio totaling $3.396 million. The School houses several notably ranked and accredited academic programs, including baccalaureate degrees in nursing science, public health, and the health sciences, as well as master’s programs, post-master’s certificates, and doctoral programs – PhD (Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science) and DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice).

The School’s funding and expertise are especially strong in the following areas: Social & Biological Determinants of Health, Chronic Disease (e.g., HIV), Acute & Critical Care, Mental Health/Substance Use, Family, Women & Child Health, Health Promotion & Prevention, and Sex & Gender Minority Health. SONHS has an outstanding research infrastructure that includes faculty and grants development, mock and editor reviews, pre- and post-award management, IRB and qualify review assurance, data management, and statistical support. SONHS facilities include over 53,000 square feet dedicated to high-tech classrooms, seminar rooms, and computer labs supporting research and education, a 1,225-square-foot Biobehavioral Laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art tools to perform molecular assessments (e.g., cell culture, DNA methylation, gene expression, protein quantification) and biospecimen storage. In addition, SONHS has a fully equipped and operational 5-story, 41,000-square-foot, cutting-edge Simulation Hospital, which replicates the true flow of activities in a clinical and hospital practice and is a global destination center for simulation-based education, research, and service.
