SUMMARY:

The Department of Psychology and Special Education is seeking faculty for a Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (Tenure Track) position in School Psychology with responsibilities in support of our NASP-approved Specialist in School Psychology program and undergraduate Psychology major. This position will begin Fall 2024.

Individuals must have a doctorate in School Psychology or a closely related field. Qualified candidates, are licensed or license-eligible. Preference will be given to candidates who have higher education teaching experience, have a strong record of or potential for research, and experience supervising/advising students. Experience obtaining external funding is highly desirable.

The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. Summer teaching is optional but not guaranteed. The position will primarily serve the School Psychology program but may contribute to other graduate and undergraduate courses in the department of Psychology and Special Education. Faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community.

Texas A&M University-Commerce offers more than 100 degrees at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels to over 12,000 students. Located one-hour East from downtown Dallas, Commerce is a community with a rich combination of local music, festivals and other unique entertainment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate, masters or doctoral level courses in the department of Psychology and Special Education;
  • Work to ensure continuous NASP accreditation;
  • Design, implement, and publish research;
  • Advise students;
  • Prepare syllabi; 
  • Update course materials; 
  • Develop curriculum; 
  • Deliver instruction both online and on any of the university campuses. Instructional duties may include teaching during the day, in the evening, or on Saturday.
  • Work  collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community; and
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Earned doctorate in School Psychology, or a closely related field. Candidates that are ABD will be considered but degree must be conferred on or before January 1st for Spring appointments and on or before September 1st for Fall appointments.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success. Scholarly publication record or scholarly potential.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctorate degree earned from an APA-accredited or NASP-approved program
  • University level teaching experience. Online teaching experience. 
  • Licensed or license eligible as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) &/or Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Evidence of supervising and advising students. 
  • Record or potential for research and publication at the national/international level and ability to pursue funded research. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting. 

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

  • Supervision of graduate assistants, practicum students and student interns.
