The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is recruiting an MD/DO faculty clinician-researcher at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level.  A doctorate degree in other clinical disciplines (e.g. psychology, nursing) with an ability to provide clinical service will also be considered. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Department’s research division is undergoing significant expansion. We are growing our program in interprofessional education and collaborative care and intend to develop a strong interprofessional research team that will investigate innovative solutions to improving primary care, especially care of underserved and vulnerable populations, particularly those with limited resources and those who are impacted by systemic discrimination and social marginalization. Foci of research in the Department include health disparities, management of chronic illness, substance abuse, provision of preventive services, primary care for persons living with HIV, patient safety, health informatics, and practice transformation to improve efficiency and quality of care.

The expanding Department of Family and Community Medicine currently has nearly 50 academic and clinical faculty members. The Department and faculty have a strong commitment to provide excellent clinical care, education and research that meet the primary care needs of a diverse urban population, including persons living with HIV, gender-diverse care and comprehensive family planning services. The Department partners with Mile Square Health Center, a federally qualified health center that serves an inner city population at seven outpatient sites. The Department runs the UIC student health service, serving over 30,000 students annually. The faculty and residents provide broad-spectrum care in the academic medical center and our outpatient clinics, serving patients of all ages, including pregnant persons.  The department supports a broad range of clinical and scholarly interests among its faculty and is committed to mentoring its members in their academic development.

We have a top-rated Family and Community Medicine clerkship that trains over 180 medical students each year and an outstanding Family and Community Medicine Residency with 25 residents. We have a longstanding history of developing educational innovations aimed at preparing the heath workforce to meet the needs of our diverse patient populations. We are co-leading one of 48 national Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEPs) funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The department also includes the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center (MATEC), also funded by HRSA.
