MIP comprises over 400 individuals within CVMBS who share a common passion for solving some of the most important current human and animal health problems. Internationally recognized research programs include those related to clinical hematopathology and hematologic neoplasms, mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, zoonotic and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally occurring animal diseases. MIP also has a strong commitment to education research and the application of cutting-edge pedagogy and has been a leader in establishing university educational initiatives with commensurate professional recognition for educators. MIP provides the only microbiology undergraduate degree program in Colorado, cutting edge training in multiple areas of basic and applied research including the aforementioned programs, and several specialized veterinary residency training programs. Position Summary
MIP invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month appointment at the assistant or associate professor level. The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the Prion Research Center (PRC) which constitutes a significant research pillar within MIP. The PRC was founded in 2011 to build on the rich history of prion research and discovery at CSU. The PRC is at the forefront of prion research and is one of only a handful of settings with resources and specialized expertise in transgenic, cell biological, biochemical, molecular genetic, and in vitro approaches to study prions in mammalian and yeast systems, as well as prion diseases in natural host species. The PRC currently has six faculty members with access to exceptional facilities and resources. All faculty are internationally recognized and devoted to research and training.
We are seeking a collaborative candidate with a demonstrated track record in or significant potential for independent basic research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases involving prion-based mechanisms. The successful candidate will work with other faculty to develop, implement and apply PRC programmatic initiatives. Successful candidates must also show success in teaching and mentoring and share our dedicated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates will have a Doctor of Philosophy degree or equivalent in microbiology or a related field.
  • Will demonstrate evidence of conducting and publishing research in the study of neurodegenerative diseases involving prion-based mechanisms, including senior-level authorship in peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Will demonstrate evidence of teaching and/or mentoring experience in the field of microbiology.
  • Will have a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Will have a demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Evidence of applying for and securing extramural funding.
  • Contribution to broad collaborative proposals for external funding
  • Successful training and integration of early career researchers to the prion field
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the research community at large through participation in committee functions, symposia, grant review, and related activities
