Description

As Assistant or Associate Professor, this person's primary responsibilities are academic. These responsibilities include teach three courses per semester in all areas of theatre arts; some combination of Introduction to Theatre; Directing and Play Production; Introduction to Acting; Stage Make-Up; Theatre Workshop; Stagecraft I and II; Dramatic Literature and Theatre History; Creative Drama and Dance for K-8; Coordinate primary learning activities of theatre courses with department productions, as per course descriptions; Teach, coach, and mobilize students, including Drama Club members, 2-3 work-study students, in all mainstage productions; Coordinate box office duties and concessions for all productions; Coordinate all marketing efforts for the theatre program.

 As the Artistic Director of the Bank of Commerce Performing Arts Series for the Beier and Small auditoriums, this person will be responsible for curating and producing all productions/performances associated with the BOC Mainstage Season including oversee all theatre-related purchases and production budgets, with the assistance of The Offices of Foundation and Business; Maintain with UMW's Office of Events and Conference Services, and the theatre program's Technical Director, a central, organized schedule/calendar for the Beier and small auditoriums, balancing academic, university, and community events.

 Since 2005, the University of Montana Western has been the only publicly funded, four-year baccalaureate degree granting university to operate fully on a block schedule. Each semester, students enroll in a full-time load of four classes that they take once at a time for three hours per 1 /3 day for 18 days. Experiential learning, in the sense that it is the authentic practice of a given academic discipline, is emphasized at UMW.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
  •      MFA or Ph.D. in Theatre, Performance, or related area of study.

Preferred

  •       Three years of teaching at the university level
  •      Ability to teach one or more of the following: a multi-arts appreciation course; K-12 drama methods, multimedia or filmmaking, and ability to teach online courses.
  •      Professional experience in regional theater, film, or television.
