Job Overview
As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Research, invites applications for a faculty member with expertise in radiation biology that will complement and expand growing programs in translational and basic research. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.
Current areas of exploration include molecular effects of proton radiotherapy (FLASH and conventional dose rate), immune effects of radiation therapy, mechanisms of radiation resistance, and real-time changes after radiation using quantitative phase imaging microscopy. As a branch of a clinical department, this position also facilitates pre-clinical, translational, and clinical collaboration.
The faculty candidate will work in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC) and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), as well as the UCHealth/CCHMC Proton Therapy Center as needed. The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology, along with UC Health, are leaders in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research and cancer treatment (https://med.uc.edu/depart/radiation-oncology/home).
Formalized mentorship will be provided along with competitive start up funds and access to core facilities, a XenX animal irradiator, a newly purchased cabinet radiator, and the research gantry at the UC Health/CCHMC Proton Center. The University has additionally invested in the construction of an on-site cyclotron for collaborative projects requiring radionuclides. Faculty laboratories will be housed in the newly renovated Division of Radiation Oncology Research in the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies, designed by famed architect Frank Gehry, near the UC Medical Center and College of Medicine.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent) in Molecular Biology or a related field, with interest and experience in applications to cancer.
- The successful candidate will be primarily focused on advancing experimental studies with a small educational and training component.
