Position Details:


Summary of Duties:
The major program duties and responsibilities of this position are to teach course central to the core architecture curriculum in the Architecture (B.S. and/or M.Arch) programs of the School of Design & Construction.

Responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level architecture studio, lecture, and seminar courses and courses in allied disciplines within the school when required.

  • Participate in program and school committees as well as college and/or university where appropriate.

  • Participate in student advising and mentoring.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess an accredited degree in architecture, either a professional Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a professional Master’s degree in architecture.

  • Have at least 5 years of practice experience in architecture demonstrating comprehensive professional knowledge and expertise.

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice.

  • Candidates must be willing and able to engage with students, including students from diverse disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds

  • Candidate must be willing and able to engage with community and/or industry stakeholders. OR

  • Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to engage with community and/or industry partners.

  • Possess superior interpersonal skills, including collaboration and teamwork.

  • To be considered for Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 6 years of teaching experience or equivalent by the hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold licensure in architecture.

  • Have higher education teaching experience in an architecture program.

  • Have 10 or more years of professional practice experience in architecture.

  • Demonstrated teaching and/or professional experience addressing a variety of project types (including, but not limited to, residential, commercial, and institutional), responsibility areas (including, but not limited to, pre-design through construction administration, including project management) and scales of development (from building design to urban design).

  • Have received peer-reviewed design awards, publications, competitive public work and/or other indications of meritorious work in architectural practice.

  • Have research interests that complement teaching and curriculum design.

  • Possess a body of professional architectural work that engages 21st century challenges in innovative ways and/or leverages emergent methods and/or tools to meet these challenges.

  • Demonstrate how their teaching can advance student understanding at the intersections of architectural practice and one or more of the strategic research areas in the SDC which include decarbonization of the built environment, emerging technologies and advanced computational design, and health and well-being.

Salary:

$70,000 - $77,000

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
