Job Description

The Texas A&M University-Texarkana (A&M-Texarkana) is developing a unique seven (7) semester hybrid physical therapy program. A&M-Texarkana Department of Physical Therapy (DPT) is focused on improving the health of rural populations in eastern Texas in part through improving access to healthcare providers including physical therapists.

A&M-Texarkana DPT is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty member with a terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, ScD, etc.). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in curriculum development and CAPTE accreditation as well as program assessment. A strong background teaching anatomy, physiology, diagnostics, and interventions is preferred.  Participation in scholarly research and activities is expected and supported, along with department, community, and university service activities.  Recent experience leading interprofessional activities would position a candidate ideally for this faculty position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and expertise in teaching by teaching or co-teaching didactic and immersive lab courses related to his/her/their areas of expertise (anatomy, physiology, cardiopulmonary, therapeutic diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions – preferred)
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from all backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensures the delivery of curriculum based on evidence, contemporary clinical practice and CAPTE requirements.
  • Responsible for interprofessional activities to fulfill CAPTE requirements.
  • Leads curriculum committee.
  • Educates core and adjunct faculty regarding the curriculum plan, to include integration, and how each course contributes to the curriculum as a whole.
  • Reviews course syllabi prior to the start of each semester to ensure adequate integration of the learning objectives within the curriculum.
  • Conducts formative and summative curricular assessments including collecting information from alumni and employers.
  • Assists the Department Director in assigning teaching responsibilities to core and adjunct faculty.
  • Organizes immersion labs and facilitates communication between core and adjunct faculty in preparation for immersion labs.
  • Provides mentorship to core and adjunct faculty in the development of course objectives, learning activities and objectives evaluations.
  • Works with the Department Director to organize and maintain master class schedule.
  • Establishes and implements a personal scholarly agenda.
  • Promotes, helps plan and participates in community and university service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned DPT, MPT, BSPT with Academic Doctorate
  • Active unrestricted PT license
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time clinical practice following licensure
  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in DPT program
  • Strong leadership skills and a vision for excellence
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skill in conflict resolution
  • Familiar with software (EXXAT) for curricular mapping and others typically used by DPT programs.
  • Committed to developing and sustaining strong and substantive community relations.
  • Ability to teach DPT coursework.

Assistant Professor Rank Qualifications

  • Hold a degree in physical therapy (BS, MS, or DPT) from an accredited institution; if that degree is not a DPT, the candidate must have an earned or be in the candidacy phase of a terminal academic doctoral degree (e.g. DSc, EdD, PhD) by the start date of employment.
  •  Hold or be eligible for an active, unrestricted Physical Therapy license in any state.
  • Demonstrate evidence of professional or community service activities/engagement
  • Demonstrate contemporary expertise in areas of teaching (i.e. post-professional certifications, continuing education, etc.)
  • Demonstrate evidence of participation in the design, conduct or dissemination of original research.

Associate Professor Rank Qualifications

  • All minimum and Assistant Professor qualifications
  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the Assistant Professor rank.
  • A minimum of four (4) peer-reviewed publications or presentations.
  • A minimum of two (2) service activities at the department, college, or university level.
  • Evidence of satisfactory student evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience in curriculum development and administration in DPT program
  • Participation in a minimum of one CAPTE Self Study
  • Specialty certification (CCS, GCS, OCS, NCS, PCS, OS, WCS, ECS, SCS, WCS) or equivalent
  • Higher education certification in active learning, hybrid education, teaching models, curriculum, or similar
