POSITION DETAILS:

The Patel College­­ of Global Sustainability at the University of South Florida is searching for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction (non-tenured three-year renewable contracts) to join an interdisciplinary core faculty. Patel College offers MA and MS degrees in multiple areas of concentration in global sustainability.  Applicant should be invested in creative pedagogy and curriculum development and possess a background that demonstrates a commitment to developing leadership talent for the twenty-first century in the interdisciplinary field of global sustainability. An Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction is sought in fields that include: Sustainable Tourism, Sustainable Business, Renewable Energy, Water Sustainability, Food-Energy-Water Nexus, Climate Change, Food Security & Sustainability, Sustainability Policy, Sustainable Urbanization, Biodiversity and Ecosystems, and Earth System Modeling. The Patel College is growing rapidly and expects to fill this position by the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester and expects having multiple positions in these areas in the future.

Applicant should have experience designing and teaching graduate level courses that support the mission of the Patel College.  Applicant should be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary setting teaching graduate level courses in multiple areas listed above that fosters student engagement both inside and outside the classroom in multiple areas of global sustainability.

The Patel College of Global Sustainability (PCGS) is the newest degree-granting college at USF and is unique in its mission and approach. PCGS was established in 2013 to serve as the hub of sustainability experts for research, teaching and practical applications that address the many challenges to sustainable development. The college employs an elite core faculty and staff with its real strength being its ability to assemble and coordinate a multidisciplinary network of scholars and professional experts interested in working together to generate new knowledge and prepare a new generation of sustainability professionals. Already recognized globally as a leader in sustainability research, education and engagement, the college has grown significantly since 2017 under the leadership of Dean Govindan Parayil.

This position is on a 3-year renewable basis (non-tenured) with teaching load of four courses (multiple sections of same courses possible) per semester with 80% time for teaching and 20% time devoted to service that includes advising masters thesis, internship projects, and other academic service functions within the college and the university.  Salary and benefits are highly competitive, depending on experience and qualifications.

PhD required in an appropriate field related to global sustainability with a focus on at least two or more areas of global sustainability listed above from accredited reputable institutions with proven ability to work across disciplinary boundaries on innovative projects that move knowledge into practice. Teaching experience at the graduate level with excellent teaching evaluations are required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Successful candidate will have a PhD in an appropriate field related to global sustainability with a focus on at least two or more areas of global sustainability listed above from accredited reputable institutions with proven ability to work across disciplinary boundaries on innovative projects that move knowledge into practice. Teaching experience at the graduate level with excellent teaching evaluations are required.
