Description:

The University of Montana Western Division of Education welcomes applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Education. Primary responsibilities will include teaching experientially-based courses in education, including but not limited to, curriculum, methods, and classroom management. Candidates may possess an affiliation with a variety of disciplines (ESL, literacy, special education, etc.) and will also have a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving culturally and linguistically diverse students. Courses may be taught in both online and/or face-to-face formats. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain professionalism, scholarly productivity, professional service, advising, and committee work.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will:

  • hold a doctorate in Education or a related field (ABD will be considered)
  • Demonstrate a track record of successful teaching in both in-person and online post-secondary courses.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Show a capacity for effective engagement and collaboration with a diverse range of K-12 partners and stakeholders in teacher preparation.
  • Have a minimum of three years' experience teaching in a Pre-Kindergarten-12th grade educational setting.

 
Preferred:

The successful candidate may:

  • Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging with diverse student populations (ex. instructional methods tailored to address the needs of English language learners–ELLs)
  • Proven competence in middle school and secondary teaching
  • Proven track record in teaching both undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Aptitude for embracing innovative teaching technologies within learning management systems (ex. Canvas)
  • Have previous experience with CAEP or AAQEP accreditation

Montana Western is the only public four-year college in the nation offering Experience One (X1), experiential learning delivered on the block schedule. Class sizes are small, and students take a single course at a time, three hours each day for 18 days, before moving on to the next course. Each course is four credits and four blocks are offered each semester. The block schedule facilitates field and lab work, undergraduate research, study travel, and interdisciplinary teaching.
