The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria seeks a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist for a position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Pediatrics to enhance a growing division. The position requires 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/oncology Fellowship. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and will hold or have applied for an Illinois physician's license.
The position includes care of inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed in the St. Jude's Midwest Affiliate, with an emphasis on Neuro Oncology. The individual hired to this position will: 1) See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region. 2) Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department. 3) Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. 4) Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children's Oncology Group (COG).

In collaboration with the OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois, the Department has 19 divisions and over 145 faculty members providing general pediatrics and subspecialty services to the pediatric population in Central Illinois.

The current research infrastructure within the Department includes office of research, a dedicated biostatistician and internal research funding mechanism to support our faculty. The primary teaching hospital of UICOMP is Children's Hospital of Illinois, a tertiary care facility serving a 37-county region with a population base of over two million. Children's Hospital of Illinois provides comprehensive services to children, including Level IV NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center. Children's Hospital of Illinois is a major medical facility with 136 beds and a 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago. There are existing resources through UICOMP and Children's Hospital of Illinois for seeding research funding, quality and outcomes focused academic work and innovation in health education.

Position Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The position includes care of inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed in the St. Jude's Midwest Affiliate, with an emphasis on Neuro Oncology.
  • See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
  • Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department.
  • Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
  • Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
  • Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
  • 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship.
  • MD/DO or equivalent.
