Job Description:

The Kansas City University College of Biosciences is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics at our Kansas City campus. This faculty position will entail teaching biostatistics courses to graduate students in biosciences, bioinformatics, and other health sciences programs and fulfilling a foundational role in supporting research and data analysis as part of KCU’s new Center for Population Health and Equity. Additional duties will consist of advising graduate level students, providing expert input on student research, and engaging in service activities.
KCU seeks a highly motivated individual with a passion for educating tomorrow’s leaders, advancing the practice of population health, improving healthcare, and leveraging informatics to transform policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Prepares and teaches biostatistics content for Master’s degree students
  • Engages in research/scholarly activity and continued professional development
  • Serves as an advisor to students and holds regular office hours
  • Leverages existing data to develop reports on population health status
  • Provides thesis advising for Master’s degree students
  • Guides medical student and doctoral psychology student research projects
  • Serves as an expert resource for quantitative study evaluation methods
  • Participates in departmental activities and University committees as assigned
  • Regularly participates in White Coat ceremonies, Commencement, and other campus events
  • Regularly engages with scholarly activities, including oral and/or written dissemination of work in one or more of the following areas: biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Biostatistics, statistics, data science, or related field
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Background in designing study methodology, conducting data analyses, and interpreting findings in plain language
  • Familiarity with locating and utilizing existing data to answer research questions related to population health and health outcomes 
  • Meets the KCU requirements for assistant or associate professor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in biostatistics and related topics such data analysis and/or machine learning courses
  • Statistical programming skills (R, Matlab, SAS, Python, etc.)
  • Research, publications, and grant-writing experience are highly preferred
  • Experience in biostatistics student research mentoring, and program development
