Job Description

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine seeks a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank.

Candidates with research experience in Microbiology and/or Immunology, and a major commitment to research and teaching, are encouraged to apply. Individuals with a strong immunology and/or cancer research portfolio would be strong candidate this position. Successful applicants are expected to establish thriving, cutting-edge, externally-funded research programs that provide supportive environments for training the next generation of scientists and physicians. Responsibilities will also include teaching and mentoring a diverse group of trainees at the graduate and professional levels, and engagement in university, community, and professional service. 

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of mentorship, an understanding of the processes involved in academic basic science research, interest in and enthusiasm for collaboration, and a clear understanding of how their existing research fits into the landscape at UNR Med. Qualities of the ideal candidate include collegiality, resilience, adaptability, and innovativeness.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in immunology, infectious diseases, or cancer research
  • Ability to develop and maintain a cutting-edge, independent program of research, including the ability to secure external research support
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to provide first-rate teaching to graduate and medical students
  • A commitment to promote and support diversity among faculty, staff, and students
  • Applicants for the associate professor rank must have established successful, independent research programs.
