The Department of Engineering Technology & Construction Management at UNC Charlotte delivers five undergraduate and three graduate programs. Students may pursue degrees in our undergraduate programs (Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering Technology, Fire & Safety Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology) and our graduate programs (Construction & Facilities Engineering, Applied Energy & Electromechanical Systems Engineering, and Fire Protection & Safety Administration).

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The selected candidate is expected to support the Mechanical Engineering Technology undergraduate program as well as the graduate program in Applied Energy & Electromechanical Systems Engineering. 
 
Research focus and expertise may include any of the following: manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, design of machines or instruments, design of electromechanical systems, or related area. 
 
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a funded research program that complements and supports multidisciplinary research efforts. The William States Lee College of Engineering and UNC Charlotte is home to the internationally recognized Center for Precision Metrology (CPM), the Center for Freeform Optics (CeFO) and the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC); a strong candidate will have the opportunity to interact with these centers and other industry partners. 
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline and a background in manufacturing or design of systems. 
 
Candidates must possess excellent leadership, organizational, teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills, and must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment that serves a diverse student population. 
 
Relevant professional practice or industry experience in design or manufacturing is preferred. Preferred qualifications include professional registration and/or specialty certification, prior teaching experience, and a proven record of participation in funded research. 
 
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates with a proven record of scholarship and funded research may be considered for higher rank. Candidates seeking Associate Professor or higher rank should clearly indicate the rank applied for and outline qualifications for that rank in the cover letter. Candidates applying for advanced rank should clearly articulate their funding record, as well as provide five recent publications.
