Assistant/Associate Professor Learning, Leadership and Change
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
University of the Pacific's Benerd College seeks a tenure-track colleague for our Learning, Leadership and Change graduate programs. We are searching for someone deeply committed to engaging students and supporting their research through teaching that challenges dominant norms.
In addition to serving as a teaching faculty member, this colleague will serve as program lead for our Transformative Action in Education doctoral program. The program is centered on the tenets of transformative leadership, asking us to engage in critical reflective practices to understand how to guide sustainable change. We hope to find a colleague who will help us move even further in creating the most transformative and impactful program possible.
The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of teaching, research, leadership, service, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders. The position will be based at the Stockton Campus, with teaching responsibilities primarily focused on research classes, including those focused on action research, critical qualitative methods, narrative inquiry, as well as dissertation development and support.
Duties
The faculty position is an eleven-month appointment with an additional 12 month stipend for program lead responsibilities. Please note that faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications. This faculty appointment will also include assisting the Associate Dean/Dean with programmatic responsibilities, program coordination, recruitment, and dissemination of program information. The position will teach across our programs. The position includes involvement as dissertation chair/committee, student recruitment, community engagement, curriculum development, internal service, and scholarship (which can include contributions to research outlets or practitioner settings). Our program requires continual innovation and pushing of traditional boundaries, which results in a heavily collaborative teaching culture.
The basic teaching workload for an 11-month position is three courses each semester and two courses in the summer. Program leadership responsibilities will result in a one-course teaching release in the fall, spring, and summer. The position also includes involvement in EdD dissertations, student recruitment, community engagement, curriculum development, internal service, and scholarship (which can include contributions to research outlets or practitioner settings).
As Program Lead, this position will play a key role in working to build and sustain the Transformative Action in Education program by:

  • Providing overall vision and direction for the program
  • Leading the iteration and assessment of the program purpose, scope, and outcomes
  • Recruiting and partnership building
  • Building community and regional relationships to advance the program
  • Enhancing and executing our marketing plan for the program
  • Serving as the primary faculty contact for prospective students
  • Presenting and engaging with prospective students at various recruitment events, both in person and online
  • Developing faculty and providing opportunities for professional development/collaboration to transform the teaching/learning experience

This colleague will hold the rank of assistant or associate professor, depending on experience level. This is a tenure eligible position with eligibility for promotion to associate and/or full professor. The position will work at both the Sacramento and Stockton Campuses, with primary campus assignment in Stockton.
