Position Overview
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas is seeking exceptional candidates for a tenure-track position in Experimental Physical Chemistry at the assistant or associate professor level, expected to begin in the Fall of 2022. The Department welcomes candidates with a strong track-record and research interest in any area of experimental physical chemistry. A desire to effectively teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected, and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests is required. A competitive salary will be offered that is commensurate with experience. A Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field is expected by start date of appointment.
We are also particularly interested in qualified candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity of the Department and academic community. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. before the start of the position.

Job Description
40% Teaching
1. Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate instruction in chemistry.
2. Participate in advising both undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Participate in advising and evaluation of graduate students at the Ph.D. and M.S. levels, including doctoral dissertations.
4. Hold regular office hours
40% Research
1. Develop and maintain an active, well-funded research program in experimental physical chemistry or a related field.
2. Publish research findings in appropriate scholarly outlets.
3. Present papers at professional conferences.
20% Service
1. Participate in the regular academic activities of the Department of Chemistry, including committee assignments, oral exams, seminars, and student advising.
2. Provide general service to the Department, College, the University, and the discipline
Collegiality:

Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the requirements will be made through the following: (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in CV, (3) graduate and post-graduate coursework, (4) publications and conference presentations in the field, (5) statement of teaching philosophy, experience in making scientific presentations in physical chemistry, and/or previous teaching experience, and, (6) information provided from professional references.
1. Ph.D. in physical chemistry or closely related field expected by start date of appointment
2. Demonstrable research qualifications in the field of physical chemistry.
3. Well-defined plans for development of a vigorous research program of national and international repute in physical chemistry or a closely allied area.
4. Evidence of ability to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in physical and general chemistry.
5. Demonstrated ability to relate and communicate effectively with graduate students in the context of the research program initiated by the candidate.
Appointment at Associate Professor has the additional required qualifications.
6. Demonstrated ability to obtain substantial external funding to support research efforts.
7. A strong record of independent publications.
8. Have documented support of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate and graduate level.
9. Have documented service both internally and externally.
