Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) School of Pharmacy is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Ambulatory Care in the Clinical Sciences Department. Through ongoing collaborations with Froedtert & MCW, MCW has one full-time, 12-month clinical faculty position available. Candidates with experience in gastroenterology, neurology, transplant, endocrine, adult internal medicine, health disparities and specialty populations are encouraged to apply. The candidate will devote 40% time in advancing ambulatory care practice at Froedtert & MCW Ambulatory Careand 60% of their time at MCW engaged across the four missions. This full-time position is located at the main MCW campus in Milwaukee, WI. Screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Opportunity

MCW School of Pharmacy is one of the few pharmacy schools in the country offering a three-year accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Our innovative program provides student pharmacists with early and extensive exposure to a variety of clinical settings and world-class research in multiple specialties including pharmacogenomics, where pharmacists are embedded into various care models. This faculty position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to contribute to an innovative pharmacy program and shape the education and clinical service initiatives in a vibrant health science campus. In 2021 the Governor signed legislation recognizing pharmacists as providers under Medicaid. From a collaborative standpoint, scope of practice and regulatory perspective, we are well positioned to advance pharmacists roles.

Core responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a high-quality collaborative pharmacy practice site to provide clinical services and experiential education.
  • Collaboratively develop and deliver didactic education via innovative teaching methods with an emphasis on interprofessional/interdisciplinary education that includes lectures, active learning, asynchronous content delivery, laboratory experiences, group activities, and other instructional modalities that also supports the four PharmD Concentrations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and teach course content in an integrated Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum with the opportunity to participate in future degree offerings.
  • Participate in the scholarship of discovery, application, integration, and teaching, in areas appropriate to the faculty member’s area of interest, which advances the mission of the School, MCW and clinical partner.
  • Contribute to service in the School, MCW, and the profession.
  • Mentor students throughout the curriculum, and, where appropriate, contribute to continuing professional development of pharmacists and preceptors.
  • Collaborate with other MCW programs and mentor pharmacy, medical, and graduate students in research.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited US program (or equivalent), have completed a residency or fellowship (or possess equivalent experience). PGY-2 Ambulatory care residents and/or equivalent experience is preferred. All applications must be eligible for Wisconsin licensure and obtain Wisconsin licensure within 120 days of employment.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong desire to contribute to the growth and development of the program in a progressive, thoughtful, and enthusiastic manner. Candidates will have a working knowledge of emerging healthcare delivery models that involve the pharmacy profession; possess the ability to collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to sustain a culture of interprofessional education; have experience in experiential education of pharmacy students and residents; demonstrate organizational, interpersonal and group communication skills; and be active in professional organizations. Applicants should possess a high level of clinical expertise and competency, enthusiasm for teaching, experience with technology-supported teaching, and the interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with learners, faculty, patients, healthcare providers, and the public. Candidates who have research, grant writing and publication experience are preferred.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Ideal candidates will be qualified for secondary appointments in MCW School of Medicine departments or Institutes. Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin has a robust ambulatory pharmacy department that has demonstrated tremendous expansion of services and care over the past 15 years. Froedtert provides more than 1.5 million outpatient visits on an annual basis and the ambulatory pharmacy department has played a critical role in expanding patient access and improving patient outcomes. The ambulatory pharmacy department primarily consists of three focus areas: anticoagulation, specialty and primary care. Each area has a number of different clinics and clinicians that provide care to diverse patient populations spanning across eastern Wisconsin. Ambulatory pharmacy department team members perform comprehensive medication reviews and medication reconciliations; identify and resolve medication-related problems; manage chronic disease states through evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of medication regimens; design patient-centered care plans and cost-effective medication regimens; and provide education to patients and providers.
