General Requirements:
Established record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journal. Post-doctoral research experience. Federal funding experience (NIH, NSF, CDC, or equivalent), or strong potential for securing external funding. Evidence of collaborative and interdisciplinary research. Experience mentoring students in research. Teaching experience in higher education, preferably in the health sciences. Familiarity with CAPTE accreditation standards and DPT curricular requirements. Board certification or clinical specialization relevant to the candidates' research area. Active involvement in professional organizations and scientific communities.
The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is housed in Conroe, Texas on SHSU's Medical and Health Professions Campus, and will matriculate students in August 2027.
In 2021, SHSU received tuition revenue bond funding to build an 80,000 square foot Health Professions Building. The new building, opened in February 2026, and houses four academic programs including the MS in Athletic Training, MS in Dietetics, MS in Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.
