Position Highlights

The University of Arizona (UArizona) Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) invite applicants for a fiscal (12-month) position as a tenure-eligible or tenured Assistant or Associate Professor in cancer epidemiology. We are particularly interested in individuals who have research expertise in nutrition, digital health, social determinants of health, and/or life course epidemiology as it applies to cancer research.

We are seeking candidates with a demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to original, creative, and multidisciplinary research, and whose research complements current areas of strength in the department and UACC as well as the broader college, and university. The successful candidate is expected to develop and/or teach the equivalent of 2-3 courses per year, including graduate-level and undergraduate courses, mentor graduate students, and contribute to the research and service missions of the college.

The MEZCOPH is currently the only nationally accredited college of public health in the state of Arizona. The College and University have numerous innovative teaching, research, and service programs and are a valued partner in community-based research projects addressing health issues relevant to border communities and Indigenous populations. The College is also committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty to create greater inclusivity and to align more with the student body.

There is a significant opportunity to collaborate with investigators in the UACC, established in 1978 (https://cancercenter.arizona.edu/) , one of 72 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers and one of 56 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the nation, and the only Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in and serving Arizona.

Exciting opportunities for collaboration exist with faculty and other federally-funded centers covering a wide range of disciplines across the UArizona; the Arizona Center on Aging (https://aging.arizona.edu/) , the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center (https://swehsc.pharmacy.arizona.edu/) , the Center for Health Disparities Research (https://publichealth.arizona.edu/outreach/center-health-disparities-research) , the Sarver Heart Center (https://heart.arizona.edu/) , the Southwest Center for Resilience on Climate change and health (https://scorch.arizona.edu) as well as many others at MEZCOPH (https://publichealth.arizona.edu/outreach/centers-and-offices) and the UArizona Health Sciences (https://healthsciences.arizona.edu/research) .

The UArizona is a land grant university and Hispanic-serving institution situated in the desert Southwest along the US-Mexico Border. The university serves high percentages of Hispanic and Native American students compared with other universities in the US. The environment and diverse populations present many unique health research questions. We value our inclusive climate, and we seek individuals who have experience working with diverse students, colleagues, and communities.

Just 60 miles from the Mexican border, Tucson is a vibrant, inclusive, urban environment with world-class cuisine and a lively arts scene. Located in the lush Sonoran Desert, famous for its monumental cacti, stunning sunsets, and vibrant wildlife, Tucson is surrounded by mountains reaching over 9,000 feet, enabling outdoor adventures of all sorts, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and even skiing. Tucson is easy to get around in and is consistently rated as one of the top bicycling cities in the nation.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
