The Department of Emergency Medicine at The Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) at The University of Vermont is seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician desiring to pursue a career in academic emergency medicine. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (Clinical Scholar Pathway) will be commensurate with years of experience and accomplishments. The Department of Emergency Medicine provides clinical coverage at six hospital sites within Network. With our academic and educational missions extending throughout the Network, our physicians provide clinical care at multiple locations in Network. Clinical opportunities may be available at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC); Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH); Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC); Porter Medical Center (PMC); Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH); or Elizabethtown Community Hospital-Ticonderoga (ECH-Ti). Educational responsibilities vary between locations but include direct education and supervision of LCOM medical students, UVMMC Emergency Medicine residents, and other learners throughout a variety of disciplines and healthcare professions.
The University of Vermont Medical Center is the primary teaching hospital of The Larner College of Medicine at The University of Vermont. It is an ACS verified Level 1 Trauma Center for adult and Level 2 Trauma Center for pediatric patients and is a major tertiary referral center for the state of Vermont and upstate New York. With an annual census of 62,000 patients with very high acuity, the emergency department is known for quality patient care and dedicated teaching faculty.
Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY, is the second-largest hospital in Network and a regional referral hospital. CVPH serves as an ACS Level 3 trauma center and a receiving facility for many patients in upstate New York. With more than 40,000 ED visits per year, physicians work in a community setting while having an active affiliation with the UVMHN Emergency Medicine residency and participate in medical student education.
Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, VT, serves approximately 26,000 patients per year. CVMC is a training site for both LCOM medical students and UVMMC Emergency Medicine residents. The ED is the primary portal for patients admitted to a variety of levels of care provided in 122 inpatient beds.
Porter Medical Center is in Middlebury, VT, home to Middlebury College and serves a vibrant academic community and the surrounding agrarian areas. A critical-access site, approximately 15,000 people visit the PMC ED per year.
Elizabethtown Community Hospital provides emergency care in two critical access locations, one in Elizabethtown, NY, and the other in Ticonderoga, NY. Inpatient services are provided at the Elizabethtown site, and each site treats approximately 8,000 patients per year in resource-limited settings.
Successful candidates will have opportunities and expectations to participate in the academic, educational, and scholarly missions of the UVMHN. Applicants must be Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and eligible for licensure in the State of New York and Vermont. Although all interested candidates are encouraged to apply, strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the teaching, clinical, and research activities of academic emergency medicine.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants are requested to include in their cover letter information about how they will further this goal.
