Job Overview

The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the level of an Assistant/Associate Professor – Educator to support its educational mission. Rank/title will be based on credentials. DEE provides a number of common courses, including those taken by all first-year engineering students (e.g., Introduction to Engineering Design Thinking I and II). This position will focus on teaching DEE undergraduate and graduate courses, as assigned, at UC and at a collaborative Chinese university, including but not limited to the Joint Co-op Institute (JCI) at Chongqing University (CQU) in Chongqing, China. JCI is a joint venture between UC and CQU. Such courses will be taught in English.


Essential Functions

Course preparation and curriculum development; delivering course content and leading laboratories which may include but will not be limited to Engineering Foundations, Engineering Models I and II, Design Thinking I and II, Engineering Probability and Statistics in Cincinnati, Ohio and at least one semester (about 4 months) per academic year in person at a collaborative Chinese university; holding office hours; and grading and preparing assessment materials such as quizzes and exams. Additional responsibilities include: engaging in scholarly activities (i.e., one or more forms of scholarship that include: the Scholarship of Discovery; the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning; the Scholarship of Integration and/or the Scholarship of Application); participating in service related activities, such as student career mentoring, advising of student organizations, serving on departmental, college and university committees and performing outreach activities; and contributing to the success of students by participating in orientation programs. 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Ph.D. in the field of Engineering Education or closely related field prior to effective date of the appointment.
  • Candidates will be required to obtain immigration documents for entry/work eligibility into China.      

Appointment Details

Initial appointment is up to three years and can be renewed. It is required for this position to teach at least one semester (about 4 months) per academic year in China.  Anticipated work load is four courses per semester.
