Position Summary | The Department of Agricultural Biology at Colorado State University (CSU) seeks a dynamic and highly motivated scientist with expertise in data science for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position. This 9-month position is 60% research, 30% teaching, and 10% service appointment. Agriculture is facing increasing challenges from climate change, pest outbreaks and resource constraints. Many solutions to these challenges depend on the ability to generate, analyze, and interpret large, complex data sets. The selected candidate will build an innovative, internationally recognized, and extramurally funded research program in agricultural biology that leverages advances in data science to better understand and improve agricultural systems. The program can leverage data at any scale (sequencers, sensors, satellites, etc.), using and/or developing novel methods based on machine learning, mechanistic modeling, phenomics, or other approaches. This position was created as part of a new initiative to provide training opportunities and curriculum in data science for the next generation of agricultural scientists and leaders. The selected candidate will develop and teach new graduate and undergraduate courses on data science in agriculture and train students capable of bridging the gap between the generation, analysis, and interpretation of big data in agriculture. |
