General Information
The Department of Computer Science (CS) at James Madison University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions to begin August 2024. We are committed to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our faculty, staff, and students, and we value candidates who will be both impactful teachers and impactful scholars.
The JMU CS department is a vibrant and supportive community with 21 full-time faculty members and approximately 900 undergraduate majors. We offer an online M.S. Degree in Information Security with approximately 60 students. We are dedicated to supporting a culture that balances excellence in teaching, small class sizes, and opportunities for faculty and student research. The department sponsors many active clubs and organizations including Women in Technology, Robotics, Forensics, Cyber Defense, and a student ACM chapter. We have an outstanding undergraduate Teaching Assistant program that helps novice students feel welcomed and supported regardless of their prior experience.
Our students are actively involved outside the university as well, taking part in ACM SIGSCE, regional and national cyber defense competitions, programming competitions, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, and the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing. The Department is an active member of the NCWIT Academic Alliance and one of the original Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. Duties and Responsibilities
We are interested in applicants from all areas of specialization. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in Software Engineering, Theoretical Computer Science, or Cyber Security. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and/or interest in promoting inclusion within the department and the discipline.
Qualifications
A Doctorate (Ph.D., D.Sc., etc.) or ABD in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of employment is required. Candidates should demonstrate ability and interest in providing high-quality undergraduate teaching in the context of a liberal arts university. Preference will be given to applicants with the potential to develop and sustain an active, undergraduate-oriented research program. Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates at other ranks will also be considered.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
