Position Overview
The psychologist in this full-time, open-rank, leadership position will oversee all aspects of psychosocial oncology counseling services at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and its affiliated locations in the Denver Metro region. Locations include the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus, Cherry Creek Medical Center, Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch Hospital. The faculty member in this role will provide leadership in partnership with the Cancer Center Director and Medical Oncology leadership to ensure comprehensive, highly accessible psychosocial programs with efficient operations, sustainable growth and quality.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive psychosocial oncology services to ensure timely psychological and psychiatric support for cancer patients, their family members and caregivers using best practice, evidenced-based, and innovative models.
- Provide direct psychosocial oncology services to adults with cancer, those at high risk, their family members and caregivers.
- Ensure oncology counseling services are accessible to patients across cancer types, treatments, stage, geographic locations in Colorado and Cancer Center practices.
- In partnership with the Director of the Cancer Center, oversee clinical operations and all associated practice management duties of the oncology counseling program to enhance operational efficiency.
- Create and manage policy and procedure development and implementation for clinical pathways for all psychosocial oncology counseling services. Effective pathways are vital to reduce care variation and improve efficiency at all access points of the system.
- Serve as provider liaison from the oncology counseling team to disease-specific clinical teams across the Cancer Center to coordinate clinical care, identify gaps in psychosocial counseling services, and collaborate to address provider concerns.
- Engage, lead, supervise and evaluate psychologists, social workers, advanced practice providers, and other clinical professionals providing oncology counseling services.
- Partner with the Department of Psychiatry and other entities within CU Medicine and UCHealth to provide coordinated counseling services and psychiatric care to adults with cancer.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the special needs of all patients, families, faculty, staff and trainees with respect to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, gender, gender identity, ability status, religion, political beliefs, and socioeconomic status.
- Engage oncology physicians and other team members to understand and access mental health services for patients and family members.
- Implement a formal program evaluation plan including patient, provider and programmatic metrics for psychosocial oncology services across the Cancer Center.
- Implement an annual quality improvement process for psychosocial oncology services across the Cancer Center.
- Participate in Cancer Center Leadership activities including administrative meetings, strategic planning, Cancer Center evaluation and quality improvement activities, hiring and mentoring of junior faculty and staff, site visit, credential reviews, emergency preparedness and response activities, etc.
- Provide oversight and accountability for all human subject research within the oncology counseling program.
- Initiate and/or collaborate in psychosocial oncology research.
- Participate in training Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellows in Clinical Health Psychology as well as Residents and Fellows in the Cancer Center and other trainees as needed.
Supervision Received
The psychologist hired in this leadership role will report to the Division Head, Medical Oncology; with input from the Cancer Center Director; Associate Director (UCCC), Clinical Services; and Senior Director (UCH), Oncology Services
Supervision Exercised
The psychologist in this position will supervise psychologists, social workers, advanced practice providers, other clinical professionals as well as trainees providing oncology counseling services.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
Assistant Professor salary range: $80,000 - $105,000
Associate Professor Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

- Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing through the University of Colorado Health system.
Associate Professor
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA or CPA accredited program with an APA or APPIC approved internship.
- 5-10+ years or related clinical and leadership experience in psychosocial oncology settings.
- Eligible for licensure or a licensed Psychologist in Colorado.
