The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) in McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is seeking to recruit a tenure-track faculty member. Preference will be given to Assistant Professors, but Associate Professors with an established program and strong funding record will be considered. The anticipated start date will be summer or fall of 2024. We welcome applicants interested in gene regulation, broadly defined, with a strong disease and translational relevance to enhance the existing strength of the BMB department. Our interests particularly lie in the areas of epigenome control in mammalian systems, genome/nuclear organization, RNA or chemical biology, and systems biology. Candidates who use advanced methods in sequencing, imaging, or genetic/epigenetic perturbation screenings are welcome.
Current BMB faculty members are well-funded and conduct innovative research to address important biological questions that range from elucidating the structural basis of biological function at atomic and single-molecule resolutions to fundamental biochemical and molecular processes in cellular systems to mouse models of disease and intervention (for further details see: https://med.uth.edu/bmb/). The BMB Department is host to several research Centers of Excellence, including Structural Biology Imaging, Membrane Biology, and Pulmonary research. The BMB Department is part of the UT MD Anderson UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston, with an active and diverse graduate student body. UTHealth Houston is a major institution member of the Texas Medical Center, a world-renowned biomedical conglomerate that includes Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, and more than 40 other institutions. Faculty members in the BMB department have excellent access to state-of-the-art facilities and a large pool of outstanding local colleagues, all within walking distance.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent and extramurally funded research program that addresses fundamental questions in gene regulation and genome biology with biomedical relevance. Evaluation criteria will be scientific productivity, current and potential for future extramural funding, collaborative opportunities within the BMB department and UTHealth Houston, as well as the candidate’s potential to contribute to graduate and medical student education.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) and successful postdoctoral experience.
Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service, have the potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Preferred applicants will be evaluated based on scientific productivity, current and potential for future extramural funding, collaborative opportunities within the BMB department and UTHealth Houston, as well as the candidate’s potential to contribute to graduate and medical student education.
Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience will be offered.
Applicants should prepare a single PDF file including the following components.
1. Cover letter summarizing qualifications and academic goals.
2. Current curriculum vitae with complete bibliography.
3. Names and contact information of three references. They will be contacted once initial screening is completed.
4. A research statement describing past accomplishments and future research goals (not to exceed 3 pages, but citations are not included in the size limit). Please submit your information to our UTHealth Houston Careers website
