Job Summary

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) invites applications for a tenure track position as the Program Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics (FND) beginning on August 16, 2024. The anticipated appointment is 50% teaching, 25% administration coordinating the DPD program, and 25% research. The Program Director has the responsibility of effectively managing all aspects of the DPD Program at Illinois State University including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Program Director will work in collaboration with the FND and Dietetic Internship faculty and staff. The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Responsibilities: This position includes responsibilities of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Accreditation Council for Educators in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited programs, developing a focused area of scholarship, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and providing service to the University and profession. Specifically, the DPD Program Director will educate, advise and inform current DPD majors, students interested in the DPD Program, prospective Illinois State University students and others about the DPD Program requirements at Illinois State University, the ACEND requirements for becoming eligible for a supervised professional practice experience, taking the registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and the dietetic internship/graduate program application process. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish a record of scholarly publications in outlets appropriate to the discipline. For consideration for appointment at the rank of associate professor, applicants should already have an established record of teaching excellence and scholarship.

The Program: In the Food, Nutrition and Dietetics major we have approximately 110 undergraduate majors and 85 graduate students. Our newly renovated Foods Lab offers space for courses, research, and outreach opportunities. The accredited dietetic internship includes an on-campus Masters-internship program and a distance internship with an online Master’s degree. Students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in international study tours. In 2018, the Didactic Program in Dietetics was reaccredited by ACEND.

The Department: The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of six departments and two schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology (www.cast.illinoisstate.edu). The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers five professional undergraduate programs [Fashion Design and Merchandising; Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design; and FCS Teacher Education]. The department also offers four accelerated master's sequences (combined bachelor's and master's) including a Food, Nutrition and Dietetics sequence.

The department offers two Master’s degree programs: (1) a Master’s degree in Nutrition with two sequences [Dietetic Internship; Nutrition] and a certificate [Distance Dietetic Internship] and (2) a Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with four sequences [Child Life; Fashion Design and Merchandising; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design].

The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate DPD (ACEND), a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND), undergraduate interior design (CIDA), and undergraduate Teacher Education (NCATE). The Department has approximately 530 undergraduate and 115 graduate students, 24 full-time and 4 part-time faculty, 2 full-time academic advisors, 2 civil service staff and an affiliated Child Care Center. The FCS department has a collegial collaborative atmosphere among faculty, staff, and students.

Required Qualifications

(1) Applicants must hold a Doctoral degree in Food, Nutrition, Dietetics, or closely related field. Exceptional A.B.D candidates with expected completion of their doctoral degree before May 15, 2025 will be considered.
(2) Applicants must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a minimum of three years professional experience post credentialing.
(3) Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
