Position Highlights

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) in the College of Education (COE) is seeking candidates for a full-time academic appointment, open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full) Professor of Practice with expertise in recreation administration. The position will begin in August 2023.

This individual will teach courses (online and in-person) in the Recreation and Sport in Communities, Parks and Schools minor program. They also will have the exciting opportunity to work closely with current TLS faculty members to roll out a new M.A. program in Sport and Recreation Leadership. This will include developing and teaching new courses that align with their areas of expertise. The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach a variety of existing core courses like:
  • Administration and Leadership in Community Recreation and Park Organizations
  • Planning Community Events and Recreation Programs
  • Recreation and Leisure in Contemporary Society
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and supervising experiential learning and internship opportunities for students in the non-profit, governmental, and commercial sectors.
  • Assisting with ongoing evaluations of all course offerings.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications on February 13, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Recreation and Sport Leadership in online and in-person modalities.
  • Develop and teach graduate online courses in Recreation and Sport Leadership (overall teaching load will be based on an equivalency of four courses per semester).
  • Serve on select/applicable department, college, and university committees.
  • Advise master’s students.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate internship experiences.
  • Assist with ongoing curriculum planning and evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • At least three years of experience working in the field of recreation, leisure, or sport
  • Experience teaching (and/or working with) undergraduate students
  • Experience working in collaborative or team environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven track record of teaching and working with diverse populations and promoting social equity
  • Online teaching experience with multiple related technologies
  • Earned doctorate in the field of recreation, leisure, sport, or a related field
  • Experience developing new courses and academic programs
  • Academic program coordinator or director experience
  • Masters-level teaching experience
