Research Faculty Position, Tenure/Tenure Track.  The University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Anesthesiology invites applications for a tenure/tenure track faculty position in anesthesia-related basic sciences. Appointment to the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor will be commensurate with qualifications. Members of the Department of Anesthesiology are involved in research, teaching, and clinical care. The Department has four full-time PhD scientists, and two clinician-investigators, all with joint or adjunct appointments in various basic science departments. In 2023, the UIC Anesthesiology Department ranked #20 nationally, and #1 in Illinois in NIH funding relative to other academic departments of anesthesiology. The collaborative environment at UIC for research is excellent. Department faculty work with research and clinical colleagues not only in the College of Medicine, but also with the Colleges of Dentistry, Engineering, and Pharmacy. Qualified applicants will have a PhD, MD, or equivalent.  The successful candidate must have current NIH funding and a history of extramural funding for their research program. Candidates whose research involves neuroscience, bioengineering, cardiac or pulmonary physiology, pain, drug addiction, local anesthetics, or mechanisms of anesthesia are especially sought.  All candidates must have an outstanding publication record. A highly competitive startup package and lab space will be offered.
