Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, Medical and Cancer Genetics Programs, Clinician Scholar pathway

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member. The position will be dual appointed with a primary faculty appointment in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and a secondary appointment in a UW department determined by board certification. The position will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch.

The incumbent will provide strategic leadership and business development with a strong vision to develop and grow the Fred Hutch Medical Genetics Program. This leader will contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in research in the areas of cancer genetics, inherited risk, risk assessment, and cancer risk reduction, including surveillance and prevention. The successful candidate would be expected to: i) lead Fred Hutch's Hereditary Cancer Genetics Research and Clinical Programs and ii) galvanize multi-disciplinary translational research within Fred Hutch. The successful candidate will enter a vibrant and dynamic research environment with an opportunity to lead and collaborate with basic, translational, clinical cancer genetics researchers across diverse disciplines. The incumbent will serve as an academic, clinical and educational leader charged with organizing, directing and expanding the clinical and research efforts for an established team of cancer genetics clinicians and researchers, in coordination with Medical Genetics at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Responsibilities include recruitment, oversight and mentorship of faculty, clinicians and trainees on the cancer genetics team, and oversight of clinical care delivery on the cancer genetics clinical service, which includes multidisciplinary risk assessment and cancer risk reduction for complex and high-risk individuals. The position is also charged with developing educational materials for oncology clinicians and developing the DNA biobanking service. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Clinician Scholar track and will spend approximately 40% of time on clinical care based on the candidate's interests (and institutional need). The remainder of the incumbent's time will be protected for research and administrative tasks associated with the Fred Hutch medical genetics clinical and research programs, in addition to teaching and mentorship.

Appointment to the full-time faculty at the UW would be at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, without tenure (WOT). Academic appointments at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate and full professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve the delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
