Michigan Tech enrolls approximately 7,000 students, of which over 4,100 are in the College of Engineering. The MSE Department has an experienced faculty (presently sixteen members) and an approximate enrollment of 135 undergraduates and graduate students with substantial opportunities for growth. The department features outstanding educational and research infrastructure, including state of the art electron-optic facilities, a broad range of materials-processing facilities, and a comprehensive inventory of materials-characterization capabilities, all housed within approximately 125,000 square feet of modern research laboratories. The educational and research programs are supported by highly qualified, dedicated technical staff that includes specialists formally trained in core disciplinary methods and technologies. Numerous opportunities exist to collaborate with colleagues conducting materials-related research in peer departments across campus.
