Description

 

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) invites applications from outstanding individuals for a twelve-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. The position is thematically focused on drug discovery against viral and/or bacterial infections and is aimed at closely collaborating with and benefitting from the College’s Center for Drug Discovery, the adjacent Regional Biocontainment Laboratory with biosafety level 2 and 3 facilities, and the UTHSC Institute for the Study of Host-Pathogen Systems. The position comes with a start-up package and state-of-the-art laboratory space. Resources will be proportional to the proposed scope of research. Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent degree, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching in professional and graduate degree programs.

Appointment as an Associate or Full Professor requires demonstrated sustained extramural grant support, research, scholarship, and teaching proficiency that are consistent with an appointment to that rank at a research-intensive university.

Candidates at the assistant professor level are expected to demonstrate strong potential for establishing a rigorous, independent, and federally-funded research program. The research program should be focused on the field of anti-infective drug discovery, particularly bacterial and/or viral diseases. This includes but is not limited to research interests in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, virology, bacteriology, structural biology, microbiology, biochemistry, vaccines, and related areas.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding opportunity to develop collaborative research programs across the UTHSC campus, including the College of Medicine’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Biochemistry. Additional opportunities in the area for research collaborations exist with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the University of Memphis.
