The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at The University of Kansas (Lawrence) invites applications and nominations for a position of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Depending on the rank of appointment, the successful candidate should have established research interest or accomplishments in the design, delivery, biophysical characterization and/or analysis of vaccines, therapeutic biologics or therapeutic proteins.

The rank of appointment will commensurate with the experience of the candidate, and will be determined using the criteria for promotion in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at The University of Kansas. For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must demonstrate effective teaching as reflected in such factors as command of the subject matter, the ability to communicate effectively in the classroom, a demonstrated commitment to student learning, efforts to improve teaching skills over time, and involvement in providing advice and support for students outside the classroom. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate research accomplishments that have an impact on the field, leading to an emerging or established national and/or international reputation in the discipline. For appointment at the rank of Full Professor, the teaching record must demonstrate continued effectiveness and growth as a teacher, as reflected in such factors as mastery of the subject matter, strong classroom teaching skills, an ongoing commitment to student learning, and active involvement in providing advice and support for students outside the classroom. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of four departments (with the other being Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Pharmacy Practice) in the School of Pharmacy of The University of Kansas.

In addition to its involvement in the professional pharmacy program (Pharm.D.) within the School of Pharmacy, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which has currently 14 faculty and three emeritus faculty, maintains active programs in research (approx. $4.0 million per year of external support) and graduate training (approx. 35 predoctoral students, 20 Masters students, and 25 postdoctoral associates). The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry hosts the Vaccine Analysis and Formulation Center (VAFC), which specialize in the characterization, stabilization and formulation of vaccines and biopharmaceutical drug candidates, and the Kansas Vaccine Institute (KVI) dedicated to the development of novel vaccines. The general research areas emphasized in the Department include: physical pharmacy (with emphasis on the application of physical, physical organic and organic chemistry to pharmaceutical problems in solution, polymers and the solid state), cellular and molecular biopharmaceutics (with emphasis on the application of cell biology to pharmaceutical problems, including drug delivery and cellular drug compartmentalization), macromolecular pharmaceutics (with emphasis on the application of biophysical chemistry and nanotechnology to pharmaceutical problems), bioanalysis (with emphasis on the application of analytical chemistry to pharmaceutical problems), and vaccine design, delivery and formulation. The Department is also the home of the Globalization of Pharmaceutics Education Network(GPEN) and it has a strong commitment to Global Health education and research.

In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational and employment opportunities, the university actively encourages application from members of underrepresented groups in higher education.
