About the Department

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering currently has 44 faculty members and an enrollment of about 1290 undergraduate and 400 graduate students.  The Department offers ABET accredited B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering; M.S., Master of Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees in Mateials Sccience and Engineering and in Mechancial Engineering. The Materials Science and Engineering Program currently has 7 primary and 12 secondary faculty members with an enrollment of approximately 80 graduate students. The Program has research focus areas in Structure and Properties of Metals and Alloys, Energy Materials and Nano Devices, Nanomaterials, Polymers and Soft Matter, and Materials Modeling and Computation. Job Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for multiple full-time tenure-track faculty positions in the Materials Science Engineering Program. A broad and diverse spectrum of candidates is sought; women, members of underrepresented groups, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.


Essential Functions
  • The successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to their specialty areas.
  • They will also conduct research in areas of materials science and engineering such as but not limited to: advanced microscopy and characterization; surface and interfacial science; nanoscale heterostructures; hierarchically-organized materials; bio-synthetic hybrid assemblies; materials for environmental sustainability; energy storage and conversion such as solar harvesting, batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells; oxidation and corrosion; advanced materials processing; materials for high temperatures or extreme conditions; mechanical behavior, bio-inspired materials; or materials genomics and integrated computational modeling.
  • Other duties will include to develop externally funded research programs, advise graduate and undergraduate students, publish research results in professional journals, and participate in professional service activities such as editorial positions, student career mentoring, advising of student organizations, serving on departmental, college and university committees and performing outreach activities.
  • In addition, the successful candidate will participate in curriculum and course development.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related field is required.
