ASSISTANT ACCOUNTING MANAGER

The UWMC Assistant Accounting Manager works under the direction of the UWMC Accounting Manager and has supervisory oversight for the Cashier Office, Cash Accounting and Banking, accounting processes, and month-end close process for the hospital and shared services entities. 

This individual will play a key role supporting implementations, upgrades, testing and training for the upcoming UW Workday ERP go-live, and other systems expected to further streamline and standardize processes.

The UWMC Assistant Accounting Manager must have strong communication skills and customer service orientation, a focus on delivering accurate and actionable information, and a flexible and collaborative approach.  The individual must function well independently and as a contributing team member.  

Essential Job Functions
• Overall responsibility for the UWMC Cashier Office, banking and cash reporting functions.
• Accountable for the UWM patient payment reconciliation process and month-end cash settlement distrubution to participating UWM entities.
• Oversight and monitoring of daily accounting activities and the month-end close process, ensuring financial transactions and adjustments are well supported and properly recorded.
• Ensure balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely. Assist with the quarterly reconciliation of interafiliate transactions.
• Provide monthly budget variance and trend analysis explanations.
• Assist with the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting of UWMC and Shared Service entities.
• Provide timely research and response to information requests from UW, hospital operations, and related UWM entities.
• Responsible for planning and observation of physical inventories.
• Provide support and respond to inquiries related to the annual financial audit.
• Ensure internal control processes are in place and monitored for compliance.
• Provide subject matter expertise, testing, training and change management support related to the upcoming implementation of the enterprise general ledger system, Workday.
• Build effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization.
• Represent UW Medicine Accounting on committees or task forces and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field is required; CPA and supervisory experience preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience with day-to-day accounting operations in a large, complex organization.  Healthcare experience preferred
• Advanced skill level in using General Ledger applications and supporting software programs, including Excel and Word
• Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB Accounting Standards
• Record of success in managing within a complex organization and with a strong collaborative working style.  Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
