The Scherer Lab at Emory University (Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases) aims to understand immune mechanisms that underlie durable and protective B cell responses in order to more reliably design infectious disease vaccines that provide life-long immunity. We work with both human subjects and animal models to explore immunologic mechanisms involved in B cell memory formation. We are currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, and productive scientist to fill an Assistant Academic Research Scientist position in a growing lab. This position will perform research and assist with laboratory operation, particularly related to ongoing vaccine immunology projects. This position will involve mentoring/training junior lab members and require work with human specimens, pseudoviruses (risk group 2), mice, and cell lines. Research experience involving cell culture, flow cytometry, mice handling and procedures, and immunology-related projects is a preferred qualification. Successful applicants will have a peer-reviewed publication record, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.

 

The PI has an established track record of translational research in the field of viral and vaccine immunology.

 

The Scherer Lab is seated in Division of Infectious Diseases and Hope Clinic which provide outstanding and stimulating scientific environments with multiple supportive core facilities and shared resources. JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.
  • Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
  • Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Will be required to review literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
  • May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD

  • OR Master's degree and two years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab

  • OR Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.

  • Laboratory experience should be related to area of assignment.

  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience with flow cytometry (including analysis).
  • Mouse handling experience.
