General Notes

Assistant Academic Coordinator or Academic Coordinator may be hired based on experience, qualifications and candidate selected for the position. Additional hours may be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours.  

Purpose

Assist in coordination of academic support, degree planning, and campus integration for students. Provide direct student academic support, utilizing Athletics and Campus resources. Provide support to the Director, Football Academic Services with   various program and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute academic advising essentials prior to semesterly registration for an assigned group of students. Ensure students schedule academic advising appointments with campus advisors, implement tools and calendar notifications and reminders for appointments once scheduled, and provide guidance on how to participate effectively in these meetings. Oversee each assigned student’s engagement with the course schedule for the purposes of accurate class selection toward degree progress. (20%)

  • Develop knowledge of degree plans and academic programs required to assist students in the formulation of class schedules that meet specific degree requirements and promote progress toward degree. Connect students with faculty, college advisors, and University resources for major selection, degree planning, academic support, and career preparation. Ensure students engage in the academic advising and registration process. (20%)

  • Assist with daily management and operation of Football Study Hall. Serve as a point person for tutors, students, and staff when Director is unavailable. Provide direct student academic support under the supervision of Director, Football Academic Services. (20%)

  • Assist with weekly, monthly and semesterly reporting, including weekly grade reports, degree progressions, and degree plans. (10%)

  • Assist student-athletes with understanding institutional and NCAA academic requirements from initial enrollment through graduation. Develop knowledge of policies and procedures for documenting degree progress and certifying eligibility. (5%)

  • Monitor student academic performance and provide individual status updates to Director, Football Academic Services. Assist in the development and implementation of individualized academic support plans for assigned students. Continuously evaluate and monitor students’ progress to ensure appropriate academic support is in place. (5%)

  • Work on special projects with Director, Football Academic Services as assigned. (5%)

  • Engage in ongoing professional development regarding student learning and academic success. (5%)

  • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Always act ethically. Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member with sensitive and confidential information. Prior experience working with students in an academic setting. Dedication to learning-centered environment and commitment to developing student autonomy. Good time management skills and proven ability to prioritize effectively amongst competing deadlines. Demonstrated professional boundaries.  Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree. Experience with study skills development and implementing academic support programming for students in secondary or post-secondary educational settings. Knowledge of Canvas, Teamworks, and other software programs used to support student success. Prior work experience in Division 1 college athletics preferably in a student services or academic support role.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).


Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications
