Assessment Specialist, Student Success

Job Summary

As a member of IDATA's assessment team, this person will support the development of Purdue's culture for continuous improvement.  In that capacity, This Assessment Specialist will support Student Success Programs and other units that seek to better understand the degree to which our students succeed in their academic, personal, and professional pursuits with Purdue University.  This person will oversee continuous improvement (aka, assessment) processes, conduct program evaluations, and administer plus advise others on measuring important latent constructs that related to student success (e.g., belonging, academic efficacy, help seeking).  Because of that, the Assessment Specialist must work across all constituencies of Purdue University, including but not limited to all types of staff, undergraduate and graduate students, senior administrators, and instructors or faculty.  SOME remote work is possible with this role.


What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two or more years of experience
  • You have experience handling multiple requests from stakeholders - in both formal and informal settings - who seek your support in exploring student success and evaluating program or organizational goals
  • You have experience setting up and aligning quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods when student success practitioners wish for you to explore a certain phenomenon (e.g., student success in the first year) or answer a specific question (e.g., Why did [Program] work for some students but not others?  What worked well about [intervention] when it comes to student' sense of belonging?)
  • You know what a logic model is, and you have created some previously and/or educated others on the resourcefulness of this kind of documentation
  • You know the steps in a continuous improvement process and/or have demonstrated experience in facilitating multiple entities through a continuous improvement process
  • You have generated reports that communicate an overview of the intervention being explored, what about the intervention is being explored (i.e., assessment or evaluation questions), the methods employed, the steps in the analysis, results from the analysis, and recommendations for next steps to improve, alter, change, or sustain a student success initiative
  • You have demonstrated experience advising, supporting, educating, and negotiating with higher education professionals
  • You have demonstrated experience in facilitating effective and meaningful meetings and workshops (whether hosted in-person or via Teams, Zoom, or similar)
  • You have a practical understanding of the social, political, and economic issues encompassing higher education or postsecondary institutions
  • You are interested in or you are passionate about any of the following topics, when it comes to higher education in the USA: equity, diversity, belonging, well-being, student success, or organizational effectiveness
  • You have some experience or are comfortable learning qualitative analysis software, such as NVivo
  • You are proficient with the survey platform Qualtrics of similar
  • You have experience with SAS, SPSS, R, or similar
  • You are proficient in writing technical reports

What Is Helpful:
  • Master's degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Higher Education and/or Student Affairs Administration, Program Evaluation, Assessment or Psychometrics of Educational Measurement
