Assessment Specialist, Continuous Improvement + Accreditation

Job Summary

You will support and report to the Assistant Director, Assessment, in the Institutional Data, Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) unit.  In this role you will support all steps of continuous improvement or assessment processes related to Purdue's internally and externally mandated accountability exercises (i.e., accreditation).  In this way you will work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators from every single college at Purdue.  Finally, you will work to document and structure all continuous improvement or assessment processes so that they are efficient and effective.  You will work with others across campus to understand how they are or could be utilizing either software and/or IT solutions to facilitate the internal or external accountability exercises (i.e., accreditation activities such as interim reporting, quality improvement projects, or decennial reaffirmation processes).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support continuous improvement or assessment efforts across the university including but not limited to:  setting up, facilitating, and monitoring college, department, program, and institutional-level documentation, reporting, and collection of evidence material;  compiling feedback on submitted evidence material and share back to faculty, department heads, associate dean, and University Senate committee(s); delivering workshops or similar events to orientate the campus to continuous improvement, evidence material submission, and the evaluation or feedback loop processes; acting as a resource for faculty and staff in academic and administrative units through consultations on assessment methods, including the development and use of valid measures of student learning, and use of results to improve the practices of teaching and documenting student learning improvement; supporting the assistant director in the administration of rubric-based scoring of teaching and learning artifacts, including determination or creation of appropriate rubrics, adaptive developments of rubrics, recruitment and training of scorers, verification of inter-rater reliability, and interpretation of data; and preparing summary reports and dissemination/presentation of results to senior-level decision makers in the Provost Office and every college at Purdue University.
  • Works with faculty and staff to develop continuous improvement or assessment processes; support the assistant director in the design of institutional learning assessments and surveys; supports the assistant director in hosting centralized processes related to accreditation, administration reviews, planning, and other accountability exercises.
  • Maintains knowledge of national trends in higher education assessment; maintains library of assessment and evaluation resources, including Online resources related to assessment and strategies and reporting processes.  Responsible for ensuring posting of various categories of assessment reports in digital format in a timely and accurate manner.

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Curriculum Design or Instruction, Teacher Education or Preparation, Higher Education or Student Affairs Administration,Nonprofit Administration or Public Affairs, Program Evaluation and Assessment
  • Two or more years of experience in K-12 education or higher education organizations
  • You have demonstrated experience with accreditation processes and standards including but not limited to:  helping colleagues in preparing accreditation reports and gathering evidence material, supporting a document management team for accreditation compliance, and where necessary, developing new institutional processes and procedures based upon areas of improvement
  • You are a strong collaborator with robust interpersonal, communication skills
  • You are typically highly organized - managing multiple continuous improvement accreditation, or assessment processes at once
  • You go about work work in a systematic and strategic fashion
  • You have demonstrated your ability to work collaboratively across diverse departments and teams
  • You are detail-oriented with a commitment to transparency and excellence
  • You know that this work requires repeating mundane tasks with consistent zeal, accuracy, and quality

What Is Helpful:
  • Master's Degree in Curriculum Design or instruction, Teacher Education or Preparation, Higher Education or Student Affairs Administration, Nonprofit Administration or Public Affairs Program Evaluation and Assessment
  • Four years of relevant experience
  • You can manage and effectively communicate with hundreds of faculty, from diverse disciplinary backgrounds, as they work to document course-, program-, and school or college level teaching and assessment practices
  • You can support the cultivation of a culture for continuous improvement or assessment across the institution that emphasizes measurable success and impact for all
  • You have previous experience with rubrics - including determination or creation of appropriate rubrics, adaptive developments of rubrics, recruitment and training of scorers, verification of inter-rater reliability, interpretation of data, preparation of summary reports and dissemination/presentation of results to senior-level decision makers in the Provost Office and every college at Purdue University
  • You stay current with emerging practices related to continuous improvement or assessment in higher education by means of listservs, professional development, attending conferences, and via readings and professional associations
  • You have experience either participating in or convening a community of practice
  • Your previous experience could allow you to implement a systematic solution focused on facilitating the full continuous improvement or assessment cycle and formal, accreditation exercises (e.g., for-year interim report, quality improvement project, and decennial reaffirmation process
