Assessment Analyst

We are seeking a Assessment Analyst  who will provide content expertise and consultation in support of SOE’s integrated and systematic assessment of programs. The Assessment Analyst plays a key role in ensuring the SOE’s ongoing compliance with the requirements of its regional accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and specialized accreditors, Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs and the Maryland State Department of Education, by promoting excellence in design, implementation, and evaluation of learning and programs outcomes fostering a culture of assessment and continuous improvement.

More specifically, the Assessment Analyst supports quality student learning by assisting academic programs and administrative units in meeting the goals of defined learning outcomes, developing assessment strategies, producing assessment reports, and encouraging a culture of learner-centered education. These goals are accomplished by working with a variety of stakeholders, including the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Department Chairs, Program Leads, Instructional Designers, Instructional Technologists, and other assessment specialists.

The Assessment Analyst reports to the Director/Manager of Assessment and Accreditation. The work of this position is highly collaborative and is integrated with academic and operational departments at the school and in the Provost’s Office. A major focus of the Assessment Analyst’s work will be to provide content and technical expertise for programs as they create and implement assessment programs, using the assessment platform, in support of JHU’s Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR) vision.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Department Chairs, Program Leads, faculty, and staff to apply policies and procedures that foster a culture of assessment.
  • Establishes, maintains, and deepens school-wide collaborations and efforts in learning assessment.
  • Collects data and prepares program learning reports to Director/Manager, department chairs, and program leads.
  • Collaborates in leading professional development workshops in assessment and data assessment retreats for department chairs, program leads, and faculty.
  • Collaborates in completing all annual reports of graduate programs required within the institution and with external agencies.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop and/or modify assessment plans to meet accreditation and program approval standards.
  • Qualified to represent the School of Education on behalf of the Vice Dean or Director/Manager at assessment meetings and forums.
  • Coordinates and participates in academic program reviews.
  • Serves as a content expert for assessment, the educational assessment software platform, and the JHU CLR.
  • Assists with the continued expansion of the CLR for assessment of student learning outcomes, to include rubric design, results analysis, and reporting.
  •  Works with program leads and faculty to review, evaluate, write, and complete outcomes assessment, including learning outcomes, program outcomes, and administrative outcomes.
  • Uses knowledge of best practices in assessment to assist with designing and conducting tools, workshops, and training sessions for academic and administrative programs concerning all aspects of assessment through workshops or individual training sessions.
  • Performs complex data analysis and interprets a variety of outcome measures and trend data.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for high-stake projects.
  • Position is eligible for telework.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting student learning assessment practices, student learning outcomes, and rubric development.
  • Demonstrated experience with learning assessment and regional accreditation.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve data analysis problems.
  • Strong experience in learning new technological tools.
  • Demonstrate experience to use multiple learning assessment management systems (Canvas, Heliocampus, Tevera) effectively.
  • Understanding of current pedagogical and assessment practices in graduate higher education.
  • Evidence of excellent organizational, leadership, and communication/writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to the dynamics of organizational, procedural, and policy changes.
  • Proven skill and ability to identify and analyze complex situations, present alternatives and options, and recommend or implement effective courses of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior administrators, staff, and faculty of all levels as a team; capacity to quickly earn the trust of others, facilitate meetings, and develop positive working relationships across the division.
  • Evidence of ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.
  • Demonstrated competence in working with diverse populations.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three years progressively responsible experience in program administration in an academic environment.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution in education assessment, evaluation, or a related field.
  • Experience in online conferencing software (Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Experience in teaching or supporting online learning in higher education.
  • Experience with and/or desire to learn data visualization and dashboard tools.
  • Experience with data analysis tools to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses (Nvivo, SPSS, etc.).
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
