Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, environmental health, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field

Experience: One (1) year of professional work experience in a safety or compliance related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
Knowledge of software that can track, organize and present data. 


Skills:

Communication skills and the ability to handle difficult people and situations are key. This position handles tricky situations with UIC staff and contractors. 

Excellent presentation skills.  Delivering training is an important part of this position.

Microsoft Office skills including some experience with databases.
Skill in verbal and written communication.

Abilities:

Ability to conduct asbestos surveys, take asbestos samples, perform asbestos air monitoring, implement all required asbestos work practices to ensure safe handling of asbestos. 

Ability to speak effectively at presentations and deliver high impact training. 

Ability to provide excellent customer service to UIC faculty and staff.
Ability to enter, track, analyze databases and develop rational and realistic conclusions based on relevant information to resolve issues brought to his/her attention
