Job Summary

The Area Coordinator (AC) position is a full-time professional live-on position (with option to live off) within University Residences. AC’s are seasoned professional contributors who administer training, education and resources for residential life student communities including developing and facilitating learning opportunities that will enhance the experience of all students residing in university residences for multiple residence halls. Responsibilities overseeing multiple hall communities include; co-leading/serving on committees; developing strong, inclusive residential communities with a curricular focus; forming relationships with individual students, faculty and staff; coaching and supervising student staff; mentoring and supervising graduate students; mentoring entry-level Residential Education Coordinators; leading residence operations in a way that creates and maintains a positive, intercultural, learner-centered community; promoting, encouraging, and rewarding student learning, academic success, and co-curricular participation; fostering an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values; advising and supporting student groups. 

 

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field.
  • Three years in Residential Life or Student Affairs experience.
  • Two years of a graduate assistantship in a graduate program equals one professional year.
  • Ability to support a culture of professionalism in alignment with unit values.
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making/problem solving, continuous improvement/change management, strategic thinking, financial management, and drive for results.
  • Demonstrated skills in supervision, leading others and promoting teamwork in daily work activity.
  • Ability to work and thrive under limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand and interpret related local, state, and federal regulations, guidelines, codes and laws.
  • Excellent customer service and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Desire to increase knowledge and skills through on-going development activities.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with faculty.
  • Experience developing or working with a curriculum.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student learning.
  • Ability to provide an example of collaborative programmatic efforts.

Additional Information:

  • This position will require a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends based on business need.
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization this position. 
  • A Background Check will be required for employment in this position.
  • FLSA:  Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime).
  • Retirement Eligibility:  Defined Contribution Waiting Period.
