Brandeis University seeks to hire an Area Coordinator to work to provide students with a safe and comfortable living environments on campus. This person will advise, support and guide students and leaders to help them grow and develop through one-on-one interactions, programs, educational outreach, supervision and advisement. This person will also perform administrative duties within the department and throughout campus. This person will live on campus.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises student community advisors in their role as community developers within the residence halls. Includes providing training, guidance and evaluation around group dynamics, communication skills, conflict mediation, crisis management, academics, and community building/programming efforts.
  • Develops academic, educational, and social programs and initiatives to make students' living environment enjoyable, safe and comfortable. This involves connecting with other university departments, as well as faculty, to ensure the growth and development of college students.
  • Oversees and administers supervision of a quad community of 250-500 students living within residence halls. This includes academic advisement, crisis counseling, student conduct and student development.
  • Administers in the student judicial process. Meet with students who have been referred to the process for alleged violations of university policy. This requires the maintenance of an established relationship with the Office of Student Rights and Community Standards.
  • Manages multiple tasks related to student housing concerns including assignment changes, facilities and custodial needs, special needs, roommate issues and conflicts. Serves as the liaison between students in their area and the entire university surrounding these issues.
  • Responsible for 24 hour conflict and crisis management for entire on campus residence community. This often includes on sight crisis counseling for psychological situations, physical altercations, severe drug and alcohol situations.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff and supervision meetings. Serves in an on-call duty rotation with other live-in professional staff members.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred  plus 1-3 years relevant experience. 

Skills in communication, conflict resolution, supervision, academic advising, problem solving, time management and counseling.

Knowledge of basic computer skills. Previous experience as a live-on residence life staff member preferred.

Background check required.
