The University of Southern California Libraries seeks a full-time one-year Archivist position to work within the Digital Library. This Archivist will work closely with the members of the Digital Library and collaborators on unprocessed audio-visual materials. A successful candidate for this position will have an educational background in libraries, specifically archives.

The Archivist position is a full time Fixed-Term staff position.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Oversees and undertakes the appraisal, arrangement, description, and cataloging of primary source collections for unpublished materials, such as audio and/or visual media.
  • Plans, administers, and analyzes usage of collection(s). Makes improvements to the physical and digital organization of the collection(s), as needed.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, describes, and catalogs collections of many different formats for the benefit of researchers and the public.
  • Schedules, assigns and prioritizes workloads. Sets appropriate deadlines. Monitors employee performance on a day-to-day basis. Ensures timely completion of units work. Ensures staff and student workers are adequately trained and cross-trained to promote continuity of operations during vacations and extended absences.
  • Conducts research on topics or items related or relevant to collection(s). Identifies references and becomes versed in field to describe the collection accurately. Records the origins and historical significance of archival materials.
  • Develops, modifies, and implements operational procedures for the collection.
  • Has responsibility for receiving, inventorying, cataloging, and shelving or storing all new acquisitions according to professional standards. Determines and implements records storage and indexing solutions. Ensures that electronic catalog is current and accurate. Ensures inventory, reconciliation, and organization of data and reports for collection is completed on a regular basis concerning the location and condition of the collection.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education : Bachelors Degree; combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 2 years

Minimum Field of Expertise: Considerable specialized knowledge of contemporary archival and records management principles and practices. Knowledge or background in preservation management. Requires computer skills and ability to work with electronic records, databases, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Bridge. Experience utilizing digital reproduction technologies such as scanners and digital cameras for preservation. Ability to read cursive handwriting.

Preferred Education : Masters Degree

Preferred Experience: 3 years

Preferred Field Expertise: Experience creating metadata using Dublin Core, experience working with Orange Logics Cortex digital asset management system. Expertise in audio-visual formats. Demonstrated interpersonal, project management, analytical and research skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is $69,921.28 - $94,785. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
