The incumbent provides a variety of support functions within the Archives & Special Collections (A&SC) unit primarily in the Hillman Library location and Center for American Music (CAM). Incumbent will work at the Reading Room desk providing reference services to library users in a face-to-face, phone, or online setting. The incumbent will also work on archival processing projects, stacks management, overseeing Aeon (A&SC content management system) request and activity queues, and facilitating transfers of library materials between Hillman and other various departments and libraries. The incumbent will monitor the environmental needs at both A&SC Hillman and the Center for American Music (CAM) museum located in the Stephen Foster Memorial building and serve as the primary contact for facility issues. The incumbent will coordinate the hiring, interviewing, orienting, and supervising of student assistants.



Job Summary

Assists personnel, answers inquiries, locates materials, and provides guidance related to library services. Researches and identifies resources to support informational needs. Maintains and updates online library systems and guides student employees.


Essential Functions 

The incumbent is involved in a wide range of reference and public services, tracking collections between repositories, hiring student assistants, and other duties as assigned. Communication skills, specifically oral and written, as well as fluency in the English language.


Physical Effort 

Must be able to stoop/reach and lift books, manuscripts, and document cases (up to 10-15 lbs.) and boxes (often up to 35-40 lbs.) from shelves 9 feet off the ground. Also involves retrieving and negotiating aisles as narrow as 18 inches. Must be able to push book trucks throughout the A&SC Department and navigate silver transport trucks (often 40-60 lbs.) to/from the loading dock. Other physical effort required is sitting, reading, and using a computer at a desk or similar work station.
