Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary:
The University Archives is providing a 5-6 week community archiving internship to any Villanova University student interested in the field of preservation, archives, and community activism. The internship will introduce concepts of archival processing and post-curatorial stewardship. In addition, the intern will assist in the efforts of A4BLiP, Archives for Black Lives Matter in Philadelphia, with community processing opportunities.
Archives For Black Lives in Philadelphia (A4BLiP)’s mission is to promote community archives by providing support and guidance to organizations who serves Black communities and their records.
  • Support the Digital and Preservation Archivist in the full range of activities involved with research, re-housing, description, and arrangement around archival collections.
  • Help creating metadata and documentation on community partner projects.
  • Prepare blog posts, zines, and social media posts about the archives.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed information.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Ability to apply judgment to complex or ambiguous situations, and to effectively communicate questions when appropriate.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills including web browsing, searching, and accurate keyboarding.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Interest in history and/or community activism.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.
  • Degree or degree progress in a relevant field (history, literature, communication, health science, etc.) preferred.
Additional Information:
All student employees must complete hiring paperwork online before they can be hired. Also, new student employees must go to the Human Resources Office in person to show original forms of employment authorization and identification required for the I-9 form.
Physical Demands Summary:
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
  • The Library Archives Intern may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays to meet service needs of the VU community.

Wage Rate: $11.25/hour
