SUMMARY:

The Library Archives and Reference Associate, under general supervision, analyzes clientele needs, interprets library resources, and facilitates their use by student faculty, support staff, and other members of the academic community.  Hours:  Tuesday – Friday,  8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday, 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  Hours vary during the summer semesters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates the use of library resources, including the online library catalog, electronic databases, print and non-print indexes, abstracts, reference materials, and online and Internet resources.
  • Conducts clientele interviews and helps clientele make effective use of appropriate information resources. 
  • Refers to sources, places, and individuals when local sources are insufficient.
  • Provides staffing for the research help desk during evening and weekend hours.
  • Opens/closes the library and supervises student employees and library operations.   
  • Provides reference assistance via various methods and performs all information desk services (circulation, reserve, study rooms, etc.). 
  • Provides technical assistance regarding the use of supported software applications and hardware in the library’s computer lab.  Submits problem tickets to the CITE help desk.
  • Maintains assessment data and statistics. 
  • Actively monitors building activities and reports problems to University Police, Campus Safety/Facilities, and Library Administration.   
  • Maintains knowledge of library’s collections, databases, policies, technology/software, and other resources. 
  • Performs collection management, arrangement, description, and preservation for archival materials in a variety of formats/media using established standards, policies, and procedures, including rehousing collection materials.   
  • Creates and updates inventory holdings and finding aids.
  • Assists with the research, creation, and installation of exhibits. 
  • Engages in quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.  Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: N/A
  • Physical Requirements: N/A
  • Other Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.  Ability to handle materials which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.  Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. 

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in History.  Enrollment in an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archival studies.  One (1) year of experience with providing reference and access services.  One (1) year of archives processing experience.  One (1) year of supervisory experience.  One year of experience with library and archival systems (ArchivesSpace, Alma, Archive-IT, etc.).
