This opportunity entails being responsible for performing routine technical work in both field and laboratory settings. Archaeologists will take a hands-on approach using established methodologies and procedures to collect and document archaeological data. Produces and interprets technical reports to greater project team. Conducts analysis of archaeological collections in laboratory using established protocol.

What You'll Do:

  • Works in both the field or laboratory/office settings depending on project needs. May be referred to as a Field Director or Lab Director.
  • Performs assignments under the direction of Principal Investigators.
  • Coordinates with Principal Investigators to ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Maintains archaeology collections and files related to specific projects.
  • Prepares technical reports in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Keeps current with trends, literature, and new developments in the field of archaeology.
  • May lead the work of more junior staff.
  • May serve as a co-Principal Investigator.
  • Conducts archaeological investigations in accordance with applicable state/federal guidelines; and performs fieldwork in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., rugged terrain, inclement weather, remote locations).
  • May lead the lab personnel in the analysis and curation of archaeological collections utilizing established protocols and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Collections Management, Museum Studies or a closely related field and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Collections Management, Museum Studies or a closely related field and 4 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:


  • Manages multiple survey crews to choreograph the activities required to fulfill the research design and contract, managing how others do their work and how they report.
  • Serves as field contact for safety management and response.
  • Writes and/or contributes to reports ensuring accuracy of documentation and reporting, determining NRHP recommendations.
  • Makes good decisions, knowing when to escalate to other resources, and provides guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Knows state and federal regulations.

What We Prefer:


  • Working for a private cultural resource consulting firm, non-profit, or government agency.
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior's Standards in Archaeology.
