Aquatics Operations Manager
George Mason University’s Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center, located on the Science and Technology campus in Manassas, VA, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for an Aquatics Operations Manager. Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Aquatics Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Center’s natatorium. This includes responsibility for operations, leadership, risk management, event planning and management, maintenance, equipment and supply procurement, financial management, and programming. The Aquatics Operations Manager ensures that the aquatics facilities are safe, well-maintained, and adequately staffed for daily use and special events.
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, fitness, business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience with database management, electronic timing systems, and electronic scheduling software;
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills;
  • Substantial experience with event planning and management (swim meets) and space utilization;
  • Ability to promote positive working relationships and communication with a variety of internal and external customers;
  • Proficiency with complete MS Office Suite; and
  • Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.

Special Licenses, Registration, or Certification:

  • Aquatic Facility Operator license or equivalent;
  • Active certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED/O2; and
  • Active certifications or able to obtain in 9 months in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Trainers and Lifeguard Instructor Trainers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant progressive professional experience in aquatic operations and management in a community or University setting (6+ years preferred); and
  • Master’s degree, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor certifications.
